Small accident today

In an attempt to remove the rear sub frame and differential I devised a plan to lower the rear end of the car, supporting the weight of the car on the sub frame with center blocks. Then unbolt the sub frame from the unibody and raise the car back up leaving the sub frame and differential on the center blocks. In order to get setup I had to raise the car higher than my standard jack would go so I used the sissor jack that came with the car, you know the one you change a tire with. All was well until I went to lower the car onto the blocks and the the jack bent and shot out from under the car send the car onto the blocks rather quickly. The first picture is of the from jack stand. When it happened there was no center block under the from so if those jack stands would have gone…

Sub frame and differential have been removed.

Cut out rusted section in frame rail

I cut out a rusted section from the frame rail. I’m going to have to have a replacement section made and weld it in. I was unable to find an OEM frame rail. The cutting made a lot of sparks as expected so I went ahead and dropped the gas tank and put it out of the way. After all the fuel lines had been cut and were just hanging down a few feet away.

Starion Day 23

I got the lower end of the engine back. Forged internals, .20 over on the pistons, ceramic coatings, and all that.

I got the car all setup to begin work at the new house.

Starion Day 22

First I moved everything from yesterday down stairs to make a little room.

Theses wire harnesses have to pulled through the chassis and back through the interior.

And here is the other side of the wire harness in the inside. This car is freak’n unbelievable, I find it hard to believe that they couldn’t design this thing with just a few less wires. It does have a lot of features for an 80’s car such as; heated side view mirrors, cruise, automatic climate control, EFI, retractable headlights, retractable antenna, anti lock brakes, electronic side mirrors, and much more. Even still, this amount of cable is ridiculous and I will be looking to rid as much of it as possible. First of all the ECU will be replaced with a MSII controller with a MSD 6A ignition control module.

Starion Day 20

Started working on the interior which I need to rip out in order to get to the other side of the the firewall and remove the wire harness.

I stored the seats in the basement. I will likely not re install the back seats and instead modify the car to be a two seater. The front seats will either need to be reupholstered or replaced with light weight racing seats.

Starion Day 18

Now you see it.

Now you don’t.

It is now sitting in the truck in the background. I really thought I could swing it into the Lincoln but I thought I better play it safe and borrow my dad’s spare truck.

Starion Day 17

Today I removed the power steering lines, cooler, and reservoir. Then removed a very stubborn crank pulley followed by the timing cover. Here is a picture of the timing cover removed.

And more parts in the pile.
